History of Hockey in Hammond

Hammond has a proud and rich hockey tradition and history. The Hammond Mohawks were one of the Midwest's only amateur hockey teams dating back to the 1930's. Historical records for their specific 1930's season are limited, the International Hockey Wiki lists the Mohawks playing in the 1937-38 season, tieing Glenwood for second place. No further games were recorded to have been played.

The Kube Sports Complex brought the Mohawks and competitive youth hockey back to the region. In June of 2024, the Mohawks Hockey Club became a 501(c)3 focused on providing youth the opportunity to develop a love for the sport.
